For Nina, it started as a backpacking trip through Costa Rica, searching for freedom and a deeper way of traveling.

When she arrived in Santa Teresa, she didn’t just find waves, she found a community, a new rhythm of life, and Carlos, who taught her that surfing is about respect: for the sea, for nature, and each other.

Together, they created KAHU Surf Club, inspired by the Hawaiian word Kahu, meaning “guardian.” A guardian of the ocean, of the land, and of the people we welcome into our surf family.
